  • 1.1. Jumia store credit is issued by or on behalf of the Jumia company issuing the store credit, as listed in Appendix 1 (“Jumia” or “we”) to customers of its online marketplace (“you”).

  • 2.1. Jumia store credit refers to credit held on your behalf in your account and may be:
    • 2.1.1. Refund Credit, which is store credit representing a refund for purchases made on the Jumia marketplace, and which remains available for use, indefinitely thereafter, unless or until it is depleted or withdrawn; or
    • 2.1.2. Reward Credit, which is store credit issued as (a) a top-up to the account or as a cashback in respect of specified purchases, as part of a promotion or special discount event, and subject to the further terms and conditions of the relevant promotion, or (b) a Jumia gift card which is available for purchase in selected countries where a Jumia marketplace operates and may be subject to additional terms and conditions.
  • 2.2. Jumia store credit can be used to pay for products and services on the Jumia marketplace. When you use Jumia store credit to pay for products or services on the Jumia marketplace:
    • 2.2.1. any applicable promotional offers apply to the item price to reduce the item price before the Jumia store credit balance is applied;
    • 2.2.2. the applicable purchase price, tax and delivery charges, as applicable, are deducted from the Jumia store credit balance;
    • 2.2.3. if a purchase exceeds the value of the store credit, you can pay the remaining amount with other payment methods available on the Jumia marketplace; and
    • 2.2.4. any unused store credit balance will be available for future purchases, subject to the expiration period applicable for Jumia store credit rewards.
  • 2.3. In the event that you receive a refund in respect of products or digital services purchased using Jumia store credit, Jumia shall apply the refund to your Jumia account and the credit will retain its character as either refund credit or reward credit.
3. Limitations on use of Jumia store credit
  • 3.1. Jumia store credit may be redeemed within the Jumia marketplace only.
  • 3.2. Other than as set out in these terms and conditions, Jumia store credit may not be:
    • 3.2.1. used for payment for goods or services outside of the Jumia marketplace;
    • 3.2.2. redeemed for more than face value;
    • 3.2.3. transferred to another account or person; or
    • 3.2.4. sold or exchanged for cash or for any other prepaid payment instrument.
4. Further limitations applicable to Jumia store credit – rewards account only
  • 4.1. Jumia store credit rewards are further subject to the terms and conditions of the promotional activity pursuant to which they were issued, and may only be redeemed:
    • 4.1.1. towards the purchase of eligible goods and services on the Jumia marketplace, which remain subject to change in Jumia’s sole discretion, from time to time;
    • 4.1.2. within the period of time specified in the terms and conditions of the promotion or, if no period is specified, cashbacks shall expire within three (3) months of the end of the promotion, and top ups shall expire within seven (7) days of the end of the promotion, without further notice to you.
  • 4.2. Jumia reserves the right to cancel or withdraw Jumia store credit rewards for any reason in its discretion, including if we suspect fraud or foul play.
5. Withdrawing Jumia store credit
  • 5.1. You can request to receive a cash refund in lieu of Jumia refund credit by contacting us as provided in Appendix 1 or, if the service is available on the relevant Jumia website, by following the instructions in your Jumia account app or webpage to withdraw your refund credit. To protect Jumia and our customers, we may limit or delay withdrawals in certain situations or ask you for additional information to confirm your identity before processing a withdrawal, including if we need to confirm that you have authorised the withdrawal.
  • 5.2. Jumia reward credit is not withdrawable.
6. Protection from unauthorized transactions
  • 6.1. You shall be responsible for protecting your Jumia store credit and Jumia account from unauthorised use. To protect against unauthorised use of your Jumia store credit, you should regularly log into your account and review your account statement. Jumia will notify you of each transaction by email. You should review these transaction notifications to ensure that each transaction was authorised and accurately completed.
  • 6.2. You should contact Jumia immediately as provided in Appendix 1 if you believe there has been an unauthorised transaction from your account; there has been unauthorised access to your account; your Jumia login information has been lost or stolen; or any device you have used to access your Jumia account has been lost, stolen or deactivated. You must give us all the available information relating to any such incidents, and take all reasonable steps to assist Jumia in its investigation.
  • 6.3. Jumia may apply holds or limitations on your Jumia store credit in order to protect the security and integrity of the Jumia marketplace, and/or if we are required to do so by a court order or other legal process. Such action may be based on confidential criteria that is essential to our management of risk including the risk of fraud and abuse on our platform or we may be restricted by regulation from disclosing certain information to you about such decisions. We have no obligation to disclose the details of our risk management or security procedures to you.
  • 6.4. Jumia will not compensate you in respect of any unauthorised use of:
    • 6.4.1. your Jumia reward credit, as all reward credit is issued on an entirely discretionary basis and we reserve the right to cancel or withdraw your reward credit in the event of fraud; or
    • 6.4.2. your Jumia refund credit if you give someone access to your Jumia account or your Jumia account login details and they use your Jumia account with or without your knowledge or permission.
7. Due diligence, audit rights and investigations
  • 7.1. We operate an anti-fraud and anti-money laundering compliance program and reserve the right to perform due diligence checks on all customers. You agree to provide to us all such information, documentation and access to business premises (where applicable) as we may require including for the purpose of:
    • 7.1.1. verifying your identity;
    • 7.1.2. assessing the level of risk associated with your Jumia account;
    • 7.1.3. verifying your adherence to, and performance of, your obligations under these terms and conditions;
    • 7.1.4. disclosures pursuant to a valid order by a court or other governmental body; or
    • 7.1.5. as otherwise required by law or applicable regulation.
  • 7.2. You agree to cooperate with us, including by providing witness statements to the police or other law enforcement agencies, in order to investigate any frauds or disputed transactions relating to your account.
8. Warranties
  • 8.1. You represent and warrant to us that:
    • 8.1.1. you will only use Jumia store credit to transact on your own account and not on behalf of any other person or entity;
    • 8.1.2. you will not use Jumia store credit, directly or indirectly, or for any fraudulent, illegal or nefarious undertaking;
    • 8.1.3. you are not subject to sanctions or otherwise designated on any list of prohibited or restricted parties or owned or controlled by such a party, including but not limited to the lists maintained by the government of the relevant territories in which the Jumia companies listed in Appendix 1 reside, the United Nations, the United States government, the United Kingdom, the European Union or its member states, or any other applicable government authority; and
    • 8.1.4. you will not directly or indirectly export, re-export or transmit any commodities, software or technology to any country, individual, corporation, organization, or entity to which such export, re-export, or transmission is restricted or prohibited, including any country, individual, corporation, organization, or entity under sanctions or embargoes administered by the government of the relevant territories in which the Jumia companies listed in Appendix 1 reside, the United Nations, the United States Departments of State, Treasury or Commerce, the European Union, the United Kingdom or any other applicable government authority.
9. Limitations and exclusions of liability
  • 9.1. We will do our utmost to ensure that availability of the Jumia store credit will be uninterrupted and that transmissions will be error-free. However, due to the nature of the internet, this cannot be guaranteed. Your access to the Jumia store credit may from time to time be suspended or restricted to allow for repairs, maintenance, or the introduction of new facilities. We will attempt to limit the frequency and duration of any such suspension or restriction.
  • 9.2. Jumia will not be responsible for:
    • 9.2.1. any losses arising out of any event or events beyond our reasonable control;
    • 9.2.2. any business losses including (without limitation) wasted expenditure, loss or damage to profits, income, revenue, anticipated savings, business, contracts, commercial opportunities, or goodwill;
    • 9.2.3. any loss or corruption of any data, database or software;
    • 9.2.4. any special, indirect or consequential loss or damage; or
    • 9.2.5. any losses that were not caused by any breach on our part.
  • 9.3. Notwithstanding section 9.2 above, nothing in these terms and conditions limits or excludes our responsibility for liabilities that may not be excluded under applicable law.
10. Indemnification
  • 10.1. You hereby indemnify us, and undertake to keep us indemnified, against any and all losses, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses (including without limitation legal expenses and any amounts paid by us to any third party in settlement of a claim or dispute) incurred or suffered by us and arising directly or indirectly out of any breach by you of any provision of these general terms and conditions or the Jumia policies.
11. Term and termination
  • 11.1. The agreement between the parties governed by these terms and conditions enters into force on the date that you receive Jumia store credit and continues in force unless and until terminated in accordance with the provisions of this section 11.
  • 11.2. You may terminate the agreement at any time by contacting us as provided in Appendix 1 and closing your Jumia account.
  • 11.3. We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your Jumia store credit if you are in breach of applicable laws, these terms and conditions or any other applicable policies. We further reserve the right to refuse to provide or discontinue Jumia store credit rewards at any time and for any reason.
  • 11.4. Upon the termination of the agreement for any reason we shall:
    • 11.4.1. extinguish your outstanding Jumia reward credit and/or return any outstanding Jumia refund credit to the account that you notify to us within the applicable period;
    • 11.4.2. close your Jumia account; and
    • 11.4.3. all provisions of these terms and conditions that expressly or by implication are intended to come into or continue in force on or after termination of the agreement shall remain in full force and effect.
12. Variation
  • 12.1. We may modify these terms and conditions from time to time.
  • 12.2. The revised terms and conditions or policy shall apply seven (7) days after communication to you by email or written notification of such revision or such other period as may be specified in the email or written notification.
  • 12.3. If you do not agree to any change to these terms and conditions you may terminate these terms and conditions by contacting us as provided in Appendix 1 and closing your Jumia account. You will be deemed to accept the changes if you do not close your Jumia account.
13. No waiver
  • 13.1. No waiver of any breach of any provision of these terms and conditions shall be construed as a further or continuing waiver of any other breach of that provision or any breach of any other provision of these terms and conditions.
14. Severability
  • 14.1. If a provision of these terms and conditions is determined by any court or other competent authority to be unlawful and/or unenforceable, the other provisions will continue in effect.
  • 14.2. If any unlawful and/or unenforceable provision of these terms and conditions would be lawful or enforceable if part of it were deleted, that part will be deemed to be deleted, and the rest of the provision will continue in effect.
15. Assignment
  • 15.1. You hereby agree that we may assign, transfer, sub-contract or otherwise deal with our rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.
  • 15.2. You may not without our prior written consent assign, transfer, sub-contract or otherwise deal with any of your rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.
16. Third party rights
  • 16.1. A contract under these terms and conditions is for our benefit and your benefit, and is not intended to benefit or be enforceable by any third party.
  • 16.2. The exercise of the parties’ rights under these terms and conditions is not subject to the consent of any third party.
17. Law and jurisdiction
  • 17.1. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the territory of the Jumia company issuing the store credit, as listed in Appendix 1.
  • 17.2. Any disputes relating to these terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the territory of the Jumia company issuing the store credit, as listed in Appendix 1.

18. Notices
  • 18.1. You can contact us by using the appropriate email address as listed in Appendix 1.
  • 18.2. We may provide all communications and information related to your Jumia account, in electronic format, either by posting to our website or application, or by email to the email address on your Jumia account. All such communications will be deemed to be noticed in writing and received by and properly given to you.
